Rejuvenation of Defunct Irrigation Canal in the Drought Affected Areas

In a special drive to address drought affected issues, SSM has taken up rejuvenation of a defunct irrigation canal at village Katkalmba, Tq. Kandhar.  An Unprecedented drought for the past three seasons has devastated the agricultural sector.  The irrigation canals are filled with silt and mud rendering into non usage.
While focusing the drought relief measures, SSM has undertaken the de-silting and expansion of water storage capacity of the irrigation canals, using  ‘Doh’ model.  Apart from widening and deepening the Canal flow way, a ‘U’ shaped reservoirs are created in between to hold as much water as possible during monsoon.  Each ‘Doh’ measures about 40 X 20 X 200 feet with a capacity of 4.32 TMC of water.

The project, expected to be completed before June, will ensure crop production on 250 Hectares of land and raise ground water levels in the vicinity.  Hon’ble District Collector Shri Suresh Kakani and other District Revenue Officers visited the site on 9th of March and appreciated the work in progress.
